Obituary

Andrew Russell Patience was born in a cabin in Ontario, Canada on December 11, 1890 and passed away February 1, 1975 in the Winterset Hospital at the age of 84 years. He was the son of Thomas and Emma Garrison Patience.

At the age of two years, he and his family traveled by covered wagon to a farm home near Imogene, Iowa. He farmed with his father until 1913 when he purchased 80 acres of land northwest of Coin, Iowa.

On March 11, 1914 he and Talitha Butler were married at Earlham, Iowa. They went to their new home at Coin where they lived until 1944 when they moved to Dexter.

To them were born seven children: Jennie (Mrs. Lloyd Davies) of Tracy; Clara (Mrs. Harold Robinson) of Bussey; Herbert of Earlham; Delbert of Mandan, North Dakota; Glen of Earlham; Martha (Mrs. Robert Rief) of Council Bluffs and Marion of Earlham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters, and his wife in 1964. One brother Daniel of Imogene survives. In addition to his children, he is survived by twenty-one grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Andy was active in all phases of farming, appreciating the elements of nature as a part of his daily life. Five years ago he discontinued living on the farm and became a resident of Madison Manor North in Winterset. His interest in farm activities never diminished.

He was a long-time member of the Methodist church, teaching Sunday School class for many years. He will long be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather and a good friend and neighbor.

The memorial service was held at Dexter in the Methodist church at 2 p.m., February 4, with Rev. Robert Farr officiating. Mrs. Keith Chapler was organist, Jon Shepherd, soloist. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
