Earlham Echo – August 8, 1974

Obituary

Ivan Emery Russell, son of Lewis A. and Maude Bryant Russell, was born March 5, 1902, at Guthrie Center, Iowa. His early boyhood days were spent in the Stuart vicinity, the family moving to a farm near Earlham in 1919.

He was united in marriage to Inez Benson on October 7, 1925. Their entire married life was spent on the Benson homestead near Earlham. One son, Wilbur G. Russell was born to this union.

Ivan was active in community and church, serving on the official Board and as trustee of the Earlham Methodist church for many years. His love of farming led him to serve as an officer in several sheep organizations. He was a director of the Patrons Mutual Insurance Co. and a township trustee at the time of his death.

He expressed his love of family and home many times during his last illness, never losing hope of returning to his home, but in the early morning hours of August 1, God called him to his Heavenly Home.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Inez, son Wilbur, Wilbur’s wife Sally and two grandchildren, Michael Lee and Cheryl Dawn, one sister, Lelah Hochstetler of Winterset and one brother Merle Russell of Des Moines and many other relatives and friends.

Rev. Donald Harbour conducted last rites at the Earlham Methodist church Saturday morning, August 3. Mrs. Gretchen Brittain provided organ music. Honorary casket bearers were Raymond Flinn, Clyde Brittain, Beryl Kenworthy, George Radakovich, Carl Belden, Rex Fuller, Paul Mark and Les Goeldner. Casket bearers were Carl Smith, Howard Smith, Kay Smith, Stewart Russell, Harold Russell and Jim Hochstetler.

Interment was in the Earlham cemetery. Evans-McKee funeral home made the arrangements.
