Obituary

Onie Brown Miller was born May 27, 1890 in Madison county and passed away June 20, 1974 at Winterset, Iowa at the age of 84 years and 24 days. She was the daughter of Robert Brown and Lizzie Smith Brown.

On January 24, 1912 she was married to Earl L. Miller at Winterset. Five children were born to this union, two sons died in infancy. Onie is survived by one daughter, Mabel Koboldt of Earlham; two sons, Jack Miller of Des Moines and Arthur Miller of Rocky Mount, Missouri. Also one sister Mary Olson of Winterset, one brother Frank Brown of Adel, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and cousins and a host of friends.

At the time of her death, she was a member of the Earlham United Methodist church, Rebeka Lodge and Friendly Circle.

All her younger years were spent on farms near Earlham, Winterset and Dexter. Onie was always active in church work as long as her health permitted. After the death of her husband on November 30, 1948 she spent several years helping others in their household tasks and sharing her hobby of “good cooking” with many. Also she helped care for many small children and elder people. Several of the now young adults of this community refer to Onie as “their Grandma Miller.”

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 22 at 1:30 at the Earlham United Methodist church with burial at Worthington. Services were in charge of Rev. Donald Harbour of Earlham. Casket bearers were Bob Branam, John Godby, George Radakovich, Bob Reynolds, Wayne Thrailkill and Don Ross.
