Obituary

Vern Wilbur Morris, son of John and Faye Morris was born in Thurman, Iowa, on February 18, 1923. He died June 12, 1974 after suffering a fatal heart attack at the age of 51 years, 3 months, 24 days.

In 1924 he moved to Casey, Iowa with his parents where he spent his childhood attending school in Adair County. In 1943 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard ship in the South Pacific during World War II. He served in the Army Air Corp Reserve during the Korean Conflict.

On July 12, 1945 he was united in marriage to JoAnn Morrison Baylor. To this union three children were born, Robert Vern, Enola Gay, Karen Sue.

After receiving his discharge in October 1945, they moved to Earlham where they have lived until his death. He owned and operated a lime and rock truck for 18 years.

He was a member of the Earlham Methodist Church and a member of the Earlham Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Robert Wesley Morris. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, JoAnn, his children, Robert, Enola, and Karen, his grandson, Jamie, his granddaughter, Heidi, his sons and daughter-in-law, his parents, one brother and two sisters, a host of relatives and friends.

Vern was a kind and loving husband and father. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services were held in the Earlham Methodist Church on Friday, June 14, 1974. Graveside services were conducted by All American Legion Post No. 158. Interment was at the Earlham Cemetery.
