Obituary

Hazel M. Silverthorn, oldest daughter of Jesse Howard and Eva Bowlsby Parkins, was born in Madison County, Iowa on December 14, 1894 and passed away at the Madison County Memorial hospital on June 22, 1973 at the age of 78 years.

In March of 1921 she was united in marriage to Glenn Gerald Silverthorn Sr. and to this union two sons, Glenn Jr. and Philip, were born. She was a rural school teacher in Madison county for six years and was a licensed practical nurse in Des Moines, Winterset and Miami, Florida before retiring. She was a member of the Winterset Methodist church and Rebekah Lodge of Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother who died at the age of 4, and her only sister, Bessie Rhoads. She is survived by her two sons, both of Earlham; three granddaughters, Linda, Glenda Jo Ann and Beverly; three grandsons, John, Mark and Larry; and one great grandson Steven.

Funeral services were held at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset this Monday with burial at Hill of Zion Cemetery in Adair county, Iowa.
