Earlham Echo – April 16, 1976

Vello Eugene Ellis, son of William H. and Lucy Williams Ellis, was born May 22, 1893 at Allen, Nebraska, and passed away at Litchfield, Minnesota on April 8, 1976 at the age of 82 years, 10 months, and 17 days.

At the age of 12, he moved with his parents to a farm northeast of Dexter in the Bear Creek vicinity, and later they moved to a farm east of Earlham.

On February 22, 1916, he was united in marriage to Myrtle James, daughter of Annon and Florence Roseman James, at Earlham, Iowa. To this union were born two sons, J. Eugene and Lawrence M.

They farmed and lived in the Earlham, Dexter, and Redfield communities until they moved September 1, 1975 to their present home at 211 W. 9th, Apartment 1, Litchfield, Minnesota. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 22, 1976.

Preceding him in death were his parents. He is survived by the widow, Myrtle; two sons, J. Eugene of Litchfield, Minnesota and Lawerence M. of Rockwell City, Iowa; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Clay M. of Atlantic, Iowa; one niece; other relatives and a host of friends.

Services were held at Bear Creek Friends Church on April 12 with burial in the Penn Center Cemetery.
