Obituary

Walter Adam Benz, the son of Christopher Benz and Margaret, nee Scar, was born in Madison county, Iowa on April 4, 1891. He was baptized in Zion Lutheran Church, Dexter, on July 5, 1891. He received his education in the Madison county public school system. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 11, 1906.

On January 28, 1931 he was married to Fena Warner. Two children were born to this union. He made his home in the Dexter community all his life. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Senior Fellowship.

After a brief illness Mr. Benz passed away in Des Moines on Wednesday, October 4, at the age of 81 years and 4 months. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Julia, Mrs. Manley Wallace of Indianola, and Wilma Mrs. Donald Bowman of Pleasantville, nine grandchildren, and two step-sisters, Mrs. Irene Jensen and Mrs. Cora Hill of Dexter.

Memorial services were held at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 7 with the Rev. Norman M. Leucht officiating. Interment was in the Dexter Cemetery with the Evans Service in charge. Casket bearers were his nephews: William Benz, Howard Benz, Harold Benz, Floyd Shaffenacker, Robert Stoll, Jr., Robert Stoll, Sr., Howard Stoll and Paul Stoll.
