Eva Pearl Nichols Oglesbee, 88, died Nov. 13, 2008, at Winterset Care Center South.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 18, at Kale Funeral Home in Truro with Pastor Dwayne Henrichs officiating. Burial was at Peru Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to her family for a memorial to be decided at a later date.
Eva Oglesbee was born Dec. 7, 1919, to Frederick and Lydia (Wright) Travis of Peru and was a graduate of Peru High School. She was united in marriage to Harris Nichols in 1938. Eva worked for Shearer Grocery in Peru and an insurance company and photographer in Des Moines. She also worked for Lytton Hardware in Truro for many years. Harris preceded her in death in 1968. In 1972, Eva married Harley Oglesbee and they resided on a farm near Thayer. Eva worked as the assistant postmaster in Thayer and served on the election board. She was a member of many local clubs, including the Chit Chat Club and Golden Girls Club. Her memberships also included the Peru United Methodist Church and Truro United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by both husbands, Harris and Harley; three brothers; a sister; and a grandson, Bobby Tripp.
She is survived by one daughter, Darla Nichols Jenks of Lorimor; one son, Evan Nichols of Pleasant Hill; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Eva Pearl Nichols Oglesbee, daughter of Frederick Travis and Lydia (Wright) Travis, was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Peru. She passed from this life Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at Winterset Care Center South in Winterset, at 88 years of age.
Eva grew up in Peru graduating from Peru High School. She was united in marriage to Harris Nichols in 1938 and was blessed with two children, Darla and Evan. Harris preceded her in death in May of 1968. She worked for Shearer Grocery in Peru. In Des Moines she worked for an insurance company and photographer. She also worked for Lytton Hardware in Truro for many years. She married Harley Oglesbee in June of 1972 and they resided on a farm near Thayer. Eva worked as the assistant post master in Thayer and served on the election board. Harley preceded her in death in January of 1999.
Eva was a very fun loving person. She loved sewing, crocheting, knitting, plastic canvas, cooking, canning, camping and fishing. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was always ready to play Yahtzee. She loved playing card games of all kinds; she especially enjoyed “Kings in The Corner”. She was a member of many local clubs including the Chit Chat Club and the Golden Girls Club. She was a member of the Peru United Methodist Church and the Truro United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Harris Nichols and Harley Oglesbee; three brothers, one sister; sons-in-law, Larry Tripp and Richard Jenks and grandson Bobby Tripp.
She leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Darla Jenks and special friend Donavon Harrison of Lorimor; son, Evan Nichols and wife Sally of Pleasant Hill; grandson, Bill Tripp and wife Karla of Osceola; grandson, Jerry Tripp and fiance Jodi Johnson of Thayer, granddaughter Lisa Schebler and husband Bill of Davenport, granddaughter, Penny Davis of Des Moines, grandson, Rick Nichols and wife Renee of Colfax, granddaughter, Vicky Kephart of Stuart; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Services were held at Kale Funeral Home in Truro on Nov. 18, 2008, with Pastor Dwayne Henrichs officiating. Interment followed in the Peru Cemetery.
