Obituary

Ethel Minteer Bunnell, 95, of Miramar, Florida, widow of Fred J. Bunnell, died at her home May 31, 1979

She was born in Iowa, October 12, 1883. She lived there with her parents until she graduated from high school in 1902. She taught school the following four years.

She was married to Fred J. Bunnell in 1906. Three children were born to this union.

Ethel was a devoted mother, and spent her early life with her husband on the farm in Iowa caring for their three children. After his untimely death at age 48 following surgery, it was necessary to move to town where she found employment so the children could continue in school. She was always interested in education and inspired her children in that direction.

Later years she worked in Des Moines until coming to Florida in 1938. She was employed on Miami Beach as a baby’s nurse the following 20 years. She moved to her present home in 1958.

She loved to travel, and made numerous trips by car to the Midwest and West Coast, to visit family and enjoy the beauty of the country. She was civic minded and kept informed about local government and community activities.

She was always a church member, and read her Bible regularly. She became a member of the First United Church of Hollywood when she moved to this area.

During the last three years of her life she was confined to her home but kept an active interest in people and her surroundings. She was uncomplaining and appreciated all that people did in caring for her.

She waited patiently for the Lord to release her from this life.

Surviving are her daughter, Lucile LeRoy of Miramar, son Mason Bunnell of Hollywood, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

One daughter, Pauline Hill preceded her in death.

A memorial service was held at the Earlham Methodist church Sunday, July 15. Rev. Walter Sieck conducted the service. Her ashes were interred in the Earlham cemetery.
