Obituary

Fritz (Fred) Christian Petersen, son of Mathies and Batilda Jensen Petersen, was born February 14, 1885, and departed this life on Sunday, September 17, 1972, at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 3 days.

Fred, as he was best known, received his education in the country schools. He spent his early life in and near Earlham with the exception of three years spent in the home of his brother, Conrad Petersen, in Chicago, Illinois. While there he was confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church. In 1902 he returned to Earlham and worked among the farmers as a farmhand. In 1911 he joined the Marquette Cement Co. and remained there as an engineer until his retirement in 1954.

Fred was a member of the Earlham A.F. & A.M. No. 568, and of the Des Moines Consistory and the ZaGaZig Shrine. He moved to the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry on August 6, 1968 to make his home.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters, and two brothers. Many nieces and nephews and a host of friends mourn his departure.

Funeral services were held at the Evans Funeral Home in Earlham on Tuesday, September 19, at 10:00 a.m. Masonic services were held. Interment was in the Dexter cemetery.
