Earlham EchoBert Compton, 79 Died Last Sunday.
Albert Elwood Compton, son of Martin and Ann Elizabeth Compton was born in Madison county, Iowa December 5, 1869, and passed away at his home in Earlham, Iowa March 13, 1949 at the age of 79 years, three months and eight days. His early life was spent in and near Earlham where in 1889 he was married to Clara Brown. To this union three children were born, Loisel of Portland, Oregon, Lloyd who preceded his father in death and one daughter, Mrs. Marion Wilcox of Omaha, Nebraska.
Besides the wife and two children, he leaves one brother, Everett of Missouri, two grandchildren and a host of friends.
Bert, as he was called by those who knew him best was a lover of stock and spent the most of his life raising, buying and selling stock. For some three years after his marriage they lived on a farm in Adair county. Then they moved to Omaha where he was employed by the Stockyards Commission of South Omaha in selling and buying stock. He loved this work and remained in this line of effort as long as health permitted. He was stricken with an illness that left him handicapped and he retired to an inactive life. In 1922 he and his wife returned to Earlham where he since has maintained his home.
