Services were held Saturday, March 8, at the Earlham Methodist church. Rev. Ward Young was in charge. Music was by Dolores Summy.
Casket bearers were Kenneth Wilder, Roy Harris, W. G. Golightly, Richard Conaway, Richard Wheeldon and Darrell Dunbar. Burial was in Exira cemetery.
Roy Evans was in charge of arrangements.
Obituary
Leroy Clinton Slater, son of Clinton and Rilla Jayne Slater, was born December 2, 1904 in Madison, South Dakota, departed this life March 5, 1969 at University Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa, at the age of 64 years, 3 months, and 3 days.
As a youth, he moved with his mother to Exira, his father having passed away when Leroy was 12 years of age. In 1925 he was united in marriage to Iola Stetzel at Audubon and to this union 6 children were born.
His early years were spent farming. In 1939 he and his family moved to a farm west of De Soto, Iowa. In recent years he was engaged in conservation work, a job he enjoyed very much as long as his health permitted. He did his work well and was very conscientious in doing so. The hobby which gave him much pleasure was woodworking. He made many fine pieces of furniture for his family which will be cherished by them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Bonnie, and a daughter Donna Claire. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Iola; two sons, Darold and wife Norma of Earlham, and Dalton and wife Mina Jean of Winterset; three daughters, Darlene and husband Byron Webb of Earlham, Diane and husband Robert Wright of rural Adel, Dorothy and husband Michael Irving of Earlham; also 13 grandchildren, many relatives, and a host of friends.
