Winterset, Iowa
Wednesday, December 11, 1918Death of MRS. M. R. HASSEL
Mrs. M. R. Hassel died Monday morning at two o'clock, from hemorrhage, leaving a four hours old son. Recently she had been in Des Moines but came home ten days ago, on account of the illness of her daughter, Miss Blanche.
The high school was dismissed for the day and the grades in the afternoon, as a tribute of respect to Supt. M. R. Hassel, who left on Monday evening with the remains for burial in Center Point, Iowa. Rev. Giddens conducted brief services at the home Monday afaternoon.
Mrs. Hassel, living here but a few months, had not established herself in the social and public life of this community. However, those who had made her acquaintance discerned her unusual qualities. Mrs. Hassel was quiet and unassuming, unaffected and kind and devoted to home and family. Her death ocurred under peculiarly sad circumstances, as she leaves an infant son, a young daughter who is quite ill, a son just arrived overseas and a husband whose heart and mind are burdened with responsibility and sorrow.
Mr. Hassel and family have the deep and united sympathy of Winterset's people, particularly the young people of our city schools who are under his direction.
