Wednesday, October 1, 1969ROY E. HAMMOND DIES AT 79 YEARS
Roy Hammond of Winterset died last Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Des Moines. He was 79 years of age.
Mr. Hammond was a native of Dexter and spent much of his life in that community. He was born there Nov. 24, 1889, a son of James E. and Wilhelmina Meisker Hammond. He was a veteran of World War I.
Mr. Hammond was married June 16, 1932, to Geraldine Gillespie, who survives him.
Following World War I he engaged in the produce business in Dexter in partnership with his father. In 1947, he sold that business and moved to a farm south of Dexter. He retired in 1960 and had lived in Winterset since that time.
Mr. Hammond was a member of the Dexter Methodist church, and was a 50-year Mason.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sisters, Mrs. Mildred McEvoy of Stuart and Mrs. Lela Ragains of Kearney, Nebr.
Funeral services were held Friday from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur, pastor of the First Christian church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
