Page 4Found Dead
Mrs. Ed. Peterson, daughter of Fred Kukuk, of Monroe township, was found dead, alone in the Peterson home early Sunday morning last. We understand that Mr. Peterson came home from Des Moines Saturday night on the excursion train that left there shortly before midnight, and reached home, by way of Lorimor, quite early Sunday morning. He found the house locked up, and after repeated calls, failed to arouse any body. Instead of going into the house through an open window, he first went and roused two or three neighbors, Mr. L. F. Means and Ed Frey, when they proceeded together to the house, went in at the window and found Mrs. Peterson lying in a natural position on a lounge, dressed, except her feet, having been dead apparently for some time.
Coroner Dan Martin, of Winterset, was notified and he proceeded to hold an inquest upon the body. Wesley Cochran, A. Rusk and F. M. Ritter were empaneled as a jury. A number of witnesses were examined; among them, L. F. Means, Ed Frey, Peter Peterson and Dr. E. C. Ayers, her family physician. Dr. Ayers testified that she had been quite sick with stomach trouble and other complications. The others testified as to the appearance of the body when found—that there was nothing unnatural in her appearance or position and no signs of a struggle. The verdict brought in by the jury was death by heart failure.

Page 8The news reached here Sunday morning of the death of Mrs. Ed Peterson, of near Kasson. Her death seemed to be very sudden, presumably heart trouble was the cause. We leave the particulars to the Kasson correspondent, who will no doubt know all about the matter. Preparation is being made today (Monday) for her interment in the cemetery south of town. The funeral will take place Tuesday, August 30.

Mrs. Ed. Peterson, of Kasson, Found Dead by Her Husband.
Last Sunday night about 8 o’clock Coroner D. S. Martin was summoned by persons from Kasson to go to that place and hold an inquest upon the body of Mrs. Ed. Peterson. In company with Dr. R. R. Davisson, Mr. Martin at once answered the summons.
Saturday morning Mr. Peterson left his wife and a hired girl named Lulu Wright at home, the former being in apparent good health, and went to Des Moines to see the wild west show. It was about four o’clock Sunday morning when he returned in company with C. F. W. Peterson. They found the house all dark, and attempted to awaken Mrs. Peterson and the girl. Their attempt was futile, however, and they went to the home of L. F. Means, near by, and got Mr. Means to go with them back to the house. They soon affected an entrance. They found Mrs. Peterson lying on a lounge stiff and cold in death, and the hired girl was not in the house. They at once called in others, and notified the coroner. A jury composed of Wesley Cochran, A. Rusk and F. M. Ritter was empaneled, with Wm. Bivin as clerk. L. F. Means, C. F. W. Peterson, Ed. Frey, Dr. Ed. C. Ayres, Lulu Wright, Ellen Ritter and Mary Bivin were summoned as witnesses, Miss Wright, the hired girl, testified that she had left Mrs. Peterson about 9 o’clock the night of her death and gone home; that Mrs. Peterson was at that time in apparent good health and had given consent for her to leave. Dr. Ayres, the family physician, testified that the health of deceased was not generally good; that she had been suffering with acute stomach trouble. Dr. Davisson gave it as his opinion that death resulted from heart failure. After hearing all the evidence the jury rendered a verdict that death was caused from heart failure.
