KATIE AUTEN, WINTERSET

Katie Auten, 75, of Winterset died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 4, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Father Chris Hartshorn officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Katie was born August 5, 1933, at Conception Junction, Missouri, to Mike and Mary (Bindel) Gaa. She was united in marriage on January 5, 1955, to Orval Lavell Auten in Maryville, Mo. She grew up in Maryville and lived in several towns in Iowa before settling in Dexter in 1986. She and Orval moved to Winterset in 2005. Katie had been a homemaker and was once a nurses aide. She enjoyed her grandchildren very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Charles Michael; three brothers, Johnny Gaa, Mike Gaa and Donald Gaa; a grandson, Michael Foley; and one great-granddaughter.

Katie is survived by three sons, Orval Auten, Jr. of Kent, Iowa, Harold Auten of Villisca, and Roger Auten of Creston; four daughters, Julia Foley of Winterset, Tina Long of Greenfield, Lisa Kyle of Winterset and Donna Jean Auten of Winterset; a half-brother, Tommy Gaa of Maryville, Mo.; a sister, Irene Purviance of Gilbert, Ariz.; a half-sister, Eva (Leslie) Combs of Maryville, Mo.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials given to the family will be for a future designation.
