Mary E. Phillips, 89, of Winterset, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at Care Center South in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 7, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Bob Gibson officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
Mary was born on April 29, 1919, at Winterset to Earl and Mae (Barnett) Farlow. She grew up in Winterset and was a 1937 graduate of Winterset High School. Mary received her teaching certificate from Drake University and had taught school in Cooper, Iowa. She was married to Robert Kenneth Phillips on Sept. 21, 1940, in Newton. Bob and Mary had lived 40 years in Truro before moving to Winterset in 1981. She attended the First Christian Church and had been a Sunday school teacher for the Truro church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, George Farlow and Myers Farlow; two sisters, Pauline Brooks and Iva Gollan; and two granddaughters, Patricia Ann Woods and Julie Phillips.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Catherine Mae Kubik of Osceola and Elizabeth Ann Woods of Winterset; a son, Dennis Robert Phillips of Peru; a brother, Carl Farlow of Takoma, Wash.; a sister, Ruth Condon of California; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorials given to the family will be directed to Middle River Hospice.
