Obituary

Vada Afflack was born in Jefferson county, Illinois, February 16, 1882. She was one of a family of nine children, seven of whom have preceded her in death.

She was married to Clyde Knouf in 1910 in Bridgewater, Iowa, and they made their home in Greenfield where their one child was born. In 1921, they moved to Earlham. After her husband’s death in 1942 she maintained her home in Earlham. Vada was a member of the Earlham Church of Christ, and an active member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as its secretary for many years.

In 1948, she moved to San Antonio, Texas, to be near her son and his family and here spent the remaining years of her life. She was a member of St. Andrews Methodist church in San Antonio where she received the love and friendship of her associates as she did wherever she lived. Her philosophy of life was to enjoy doing anything that helped anyone.

Death came on April 17, 1966, in Santa Rosa hospital in San Antonio. She is survived by her son, James Malcolm Knouf; her daughter-in-law, Lillis; two grandchildren, Virginia Louise and Thomas Howard Knouf; one brother, Roy Afflack of Naican, Sask., Canada; and nieces and nephews whom she loved.

Funeral services were held in San Antonio, Tuesday, April 19, with Dr. Barcus Moore officiating. Burial services were held in Earlham at the Earlham cemetery with Rev. John Latta leading the services. Mrs. Gene Golightly presented the Order of the Eastern Star memorial service.
