Earlham Echo – January 7, 1965

Obituary

Mary Lucille, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Whitehouse, was born March 7, 1886, at White Lake, Wisconsin, and passed away January 3, 1965 at the Clinic hospital in Dexter, Iowa.

She grew to young womanhood in the White Lake community, graduating from the Shawano, Wisconsin high school. She then attended the Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois, graduating with the degree of Registered Nurse.

She was united in marriage to Harrison Pickett in Wheaton, Illinois, June 1, 1919. To them was born one son, Mark Pickett. They have made their home in the Dexter and Earlham communities ever since.

Mrs. Pickett was a member of the staff of the Dexter Clinic hospital in the capacity of Superintendent until an acute illness forced her retirement from active duty. During her career, her loyalty and devotion to her profession was above reproach. She encouraged many young women to strive for the R.N. degree, and under her training and supervision, many others were instructed in general nursing care.

She was a member of the Dexter Methodist church at the time of her death, having long been active and interested in church related activities. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. She is survived by her husband, Harrison, her son Mark Pickett, and by seven brothers and sisters.

Final rites were held from the Methodist church in Dexter with the Rev. John Latta officiating under auspices of Evans Mortuary. Bob Lawson and Fred Fry furnished the music, and burial was in the Bear Creek cemetery.
