OBITUARY -

Green Wilson Merriman was born in Sullivan Co., Missouri, May 6, 1850. At the age of eighteen he came to Warren Co., Ia. On March 28, 1877, he was united in marriage to Emily L. Colclazier, and to this union were born twelve children, of whom seven are now living. The deceased are an infant of four days; Jennie, aged about 5 months; Mattie, aged 24; Mirl, age 21, and Earl, age 2.

In 1888 he united with the M. E. Church and in 1900 he transferred to the U. B. Church, in which he was a useful and faithful member. In 1910 he moved to Patterson, where the remainder of his life was spent. For some days Mr. Merriman realized that the end was near, and being thus minded he gave assurance to this loved ones that he would soon be in the land "where they never say good-bye." The Lord's Prayer was the last prayer he was known to have uttered and "blessed be the name of the Lord -- His will, not mine, be done." were some of his last words.

He passed away Sunday morning at the age of 75 years, 1 month, 29 days. He is survived by his wife, two sisters, seven children, 14 grandchildren, one great grandchild and a number of relatives and friends. The two sisters are Mrs. Mollie Crow and Mrs Henry Alcock, both of Hanley. The children are: Ellsworth Merryman of Council Bluffs, Ia; Charles Merryman of St. Charles, Ia; Mrs Myrtle Mabis of Glendale, California; Walter Merryman of Des Moines, Ia; Iva Graham of Menlo, Ia; Frank Merryman of Patterson, Ia; and Carl Merryman of near Bevington, Ia.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church in Patterson, Ia. Tuesday afternoon, July 7th and internment was in Montpelier Cemetery, Patterson, Ia.
