Lee Harry Spencer, 64, of Urbandale died Aug. 20, 2008, as a result of an accident at the USPS Bulk Mail Center in Urbandale.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with Pastor Jody Lucero officiating. Burial was at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in rural Van Meter with military rites performed by the United States Naval Honors Unit of Des Moines.
Lee Spencer was born June 15, 1944, in Perry to Howard and Myra (Koboldt) Spencer and was a 1962 graduate of Earlham Community School. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, Lee began working for the USPS Bulk Mail Center in Urbandale, where he was employed for over 30 years. He was a member of the Providence Reformed Church of Des Moines and also a dedicated donor to the Blood Center of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by a brother, Larry Spencer of West Des Moines.

Lee H. Spencer, age 64, died as a result of an accident at the US Postal Bulk Mail Center in Urbandale on August 20, 2008. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday August 26, 2008 at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham, where the family will greet friends from 9 until 10 a.m. Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. At the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
Lee graduated from the Earlham Community School in 1962 and entered the US Navy where he served during the Vietnam War. Soon after his discharge Lee went to work at the USPS Bulk Mail Center in Urbandale where he worked for over 30 years. Lee enjoyed hunting pheasant and trap shooting. He was an avid reader and listened to jazz music and attended the Des Moines Symphony on a regular basis. The Earlham Community was never far from Lee's heart as he kept in touch with friends and family. Lee had a deep Christian faith, which he maintained as a member of the Providence Reformed Church of Des Moines. Lee was a dedicated donor to the Blood Center of Iowa, having donated over 48 gallons, placing him in the top ten percent of donors.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Myra (Koboldt) Spencer. He is survived by his brother Larry Spencer and wife Ann of West Des Moines; aunts Nina Davis of Oskaloosa and Amy Leggett of Winterset; as well as numerous cousins.
