Mary Elizabeth Barkley, was born in County Down, Ireland, June 1, 1840, and departed this life at her home near Pitzer, Iowa, June 10, 1908, aged 68 years and 10 days.
When but seven years of age she with her parents came to America and located in the State of Ohio. A few years later she came to Iowa where she met and was married to Wallace Wicks, March 13, 1863. She was the mother of eight children, two of which died in infancy. All of the children except Mrs. Nerman, of Lockwood, Mo., were at the bedside of the mother when she went to the better home. Their names are as follows, Mrs. A. R. Tate, Winterset, Chas H. Wicks, Mrs. O. Huxton, Mrs. F. Ellsbury and Roxie.
Mrs. Wicks confessed her Lord some fourteen years ago and has lived to the last. The husband will be sad and lonely but we assure him with the family of our heartfelt sympathy.
Note: Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
