CASPER ARMBREST

Casper Armbrest, one of the oldest and best citizens of Winterset, died at his home in the south part of the city Tuesday night of apoplexy. He had been in fair health until a week previous to his death and worked at his trade, that of a shoemaker, every day.

Mr. Armbrest was one of Winterset's oldest citizens, and at one time, when the manufacture of hand made boots and shoes was a flourishing industry, carried a heavy trade. He came to the county at an early day. He was a member of company F Fourth Iowa infantry and served four years in the Civil War.

Mr. Armbrest was a genial man, energetic and patiently industrious. He was one of the best known and most popular man in Winterset. He served several years on the city council. Mrs. Armbrest died of apoplexy several months ago. Their eight children are all grown up.

The funeral occurred Wednesday afternoon at the residence.

Death of C. A. Armbreast

The death of C. A. Armbreast occurred at his home in this city Tuesday night after an illness of eight days. Mr. Armbreast came to this county just prior to the civil war and from here enlisted in the 4th Iowa infantry, serving throughout the war.

Casper Armbreast was born in Knox county, Ohio, on March 8th, 1844, and died at his home in this city April 28th, 1908. His parents came to this country from Germany and settled in Ohio. Mr. Armbreast returned to Winterset at the close of the war and was married to Miss Marietta Odell in 1866, who preceeded him to the grave but a few months. To this union were born eight children, all of whom survive him and were present during his illness and death. They are Mrs. Maggie Burd, Mrs. Rose Burd, Eli Armbreast, Mrs. Effie Adkins, Sol. Armbreast, Mrs. Kate Ward, Nellie and Charley Armbreast. One sister and brother still survive him, Mrs. Catherine Weil and Martin Armbreast, the former being present during his illness.

The funeral occurred this afternoon from the home, conducted by Rev. E. E. Bennett and he was laid to rest in the Rock City cemetery.

Death of Casper Armbrest

Casper Armbrest died Tuesday night after an illness of five days. He was born in Knox county, Ohio, March 8, 1844; came to Madison county, Iowa in 1859. He enlisted in the Fourth Iowa Infantry in 1861 and served till the close of the war. He was married to Mary Etta Odell shortly after his term of enlistment.

There are seven children living as follows: Margaret, now Mrs. Henry Bird; Rose, Mrs. Lester Bird; Eli; Effie, Mrs. Geo. Adkins; Soloman; Katherine, Mrs. John Ward; Nellie and Charlie who are still at home. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Weil, of Crawford township, who was with him in his last sickness.

The funeral occurred at the house this afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. E. E. Bennett.
