Death of Mrs. Russell Little

Mrs. Russell Little, of Penn township, died in Earlham Monday afternoon, at two o’clock after giving birth to a premature baby. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Sweet, of Webster, and was thirty years old. Besides her husband and three small children, she leaves to mourn her loss her parents, three sisters and seven brothers.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock, at Early Chapel, and burial was made in the Wight cemetery. More details of her life will be printed in the mortuary column next week.

Phoebe Ester, daughter of George and Ruth Sweet, was born near Webster, in Madison county, Iowa, April 8, 1897. She lived in the Webster neighborhood until she was married to Russell Little on December 20, 1919. To them three children were born.

The first years of their married life they lived near Winterset and for the past two years have been living near Earlham. When a young girl she became a member of the Webster Methodist church.

She passed away very suddenly on October 3, 1927, aged 30 years, 5 months and 25 days. She leaves besides her husband and children, her father and mother, 7 brothers and 3 sisters, and many friends.

Rev. Le Vern Freeman conducted the funeral service at Early Chapel, Wednesday, October 5, and the interment was in the Wight cemetery.

Mrs. Russell Little, who resided with her husband and three small children in the W. C. Kithcart tenant house, was brought to the office of Dr. Soper Monday afternoon in the Welch & Benson ambulance in the hope that immediate operation might save her life. She died an hour later on the operating table after a premature baby had been delivered, the shock silencing her heart before she rallied from the anesthetic. Dr. Day assisted in administering ether. The baby survived its mother only about an hour. It is a very rare instance when a five and a half months old infant can be saved. Mrs. Little has been in declining health for some time, but her neighbors did not suspect the seriousness of her condition and her death came as a complete surprise. Funeral services were held at Early Chapel Wednesday afternoon and interment was in the Wight cemetery. The bereaved husband and children are objects of particular sympathy on the account of the loss of the little mother.
