LIFETIME RESIDENT DIES AT EIGHTY YEARS

Peter Clear, a plasterer by trade, and for sixty-five years a resident of Winterset, died at the county farm Thursday. He was eighty years old. The Clear family came to Madison county before the Civil war but Peter was too young to enlist. His brother, John, enlisted in Company F, in 1862. Peter Clear was married to Mrs. Ansley; John Ansley, a step son, lives at Mitchell, South Dakota. Mamie Clear, a daughter, died several years ago. Ben Clear is his nephew.

For many years Peter worked for Tucker, the creamery operator. His humorous quarrels with Tucker and his refusal to be discharged are common local tales. He was a kindly, inoffensive man, an expert workman. Old age found him without means and a year of two ago he went to the county farm. His death was hastened by a fall several months ago which broke his hip.
