Services were held at the Dexter Methodist church on Sunday, February 19, by Rev. John Latta for Mrs. Cora Speer. She had passed away February 16 after being ill in a Des Moines nursing home for about seven weeks.
Casket bearers were Jim Adkins Sr., Max Mount, Robert Wells, Francis Hochstetler, Ray Lenocker and Jasper Lenocker. Interment was at the Penn Center cemetery.
Obituary
Cora L. Marsten, daughter of Fletcher Marsten and Martha McClain Marsten, was born September 1, 1882, in Penn Township, Madison county, Iowa, and lived in this area all her life time, passing away February 16, 1967, at Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 15 days.
In 1902, at her parents’ home in Dexter, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Speer. To them were born six children. They lived on a farm south of Dexter until 1939, when they moved into Dexter. Mr. Speer died in April, 1940.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, and by one son, Wilbur Lloyd Speer, and by her eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her children: Martha Alice Bosley of Winterset, William DeLoss of Spencer, Mary Leone Higens of Winterset, Cora Lucille Payton of Des Moines, and Mildred Pearl Rowell of Salt Lake City, Utah; also by ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
