Clyde William McNary, 84, of Kearney, Mo died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Excelsior Springs Hospital.
He was born February 14, 1924 in Madison County to Robert and Lena McNary. He was a graduate of Stuart High School in Stuart. He served his country in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
He married Carrie McClung on December 19, 1948. He worked with AT&T for 40 years, retiring in 1982. During his time with AT&T he worked in many locales, with one of his favorites being Alaska, where he assisted in installing the first telephone lines across the state. Following his retirement from AT&T, he went to work for EDS and then Kramer's Hardware in Kearney, Mo. He was honored to be a member of the Kentucky Colonels. His great love of animal led him to enjoy riding horses and later in life was rarely separated from his dog and faithful companion Casey. Some of his greatest joys included his family, working in his workshop, and spending time on his John Deere tractors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers Earl, Albert, Carl and Charles.
He is survived by his wife, Carrie; daughter Billie Jo Ashlock and husband Virgil of Cumming, Ga; two grandchildren and many friends and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 pm Saturday, June 21, 2008 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart with burial in the South Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:30 - 2:30 pm prior to the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3846 W 75th St., Prairie Village, Ks 66208.
