Sandie Stevens, 86, of Milan, Ill., and formerly of Truro, Iowa, died Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Trinity Medical Center in Rock Island, Ill. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 12, in the church hall at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Marys, Iowa, where a Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home in Milan is assisting the family with arrangements.
Sandie was born Dec. 1, 1921, in Kimball, S.D., the daughter of Errol Leslie and Grace M. Waugh Fransworth. She married Bill Stevens on Sept. 30, 1950, in Rapid City, S.D. Sandie worked as a hairdresser for over 50 years before retiring in 1997.
She is survived by her husband, Bill Stevens, Milan, Ill.; children and spouses, DeeDee and Ed Buchanan of Panora, Iowa, Sherry and Roger Mason of Truro, Iowa, Ginny O’Conner and her fiancé, Greg VanHoorebeck, of Milan, Ill., Joni and Larry Nelson of St. Charles, Iowa, and Kelly and Sandy Stevens of Milan, Ill.; 10 grandchildren — Billy, Tonia, Mike, Kristina, Eric, Justin, Bryan, Lance, Nyle and Nolan; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dona Smith of South Dakota and Patty Creger of Winterset, Iowa; and a brother, Frank Fransworth of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.
