Service Held for Former Coach

G. Richard (Dick) Tomlinson, age 44, died unexpectedly in his sleep about four o’clock in the morning of December 14. Death was due to a massive hemorrhage near the base of the brain.

Dick taught school for a number of years following his graduation from Drake University in Des Moines, and at one time was the athletic coach in the Earlham high school.

He had resided in Oskaloosa about six years and for the past nine months owned and operated a Phillips 66 gas station there. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held in the Central Methodist church of Oskaloosa at 1:00 p.m. on December 16, with a Masonic graveside service and burial at 4:30 p.m. in the Earlham cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Nina Koboldt Tomlinson; three children, Airman 2/c Gary Tomlinson, stationed at McConnell AFB at Wichita, Kansas, and Douglas and Marvel at home; two sisters, Mrs. William Rader of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mrs. John Walsh of Hong Kong, China, and five brothers, Fred and Ben Tomlinson of Clarinda; Charles Tomlinson of Moulton, Frank Tomlinson of Cape Canaveral, Florida and Tom Tomlinson of Torrence, California. His parents and one brother, Ernest preceded him in death.
