Jeremiah Barker departed this life Sunday January 7th, at the advanced age of 75 years. He had been an invalid for years and the community was not greatly surprised at the announcement of his death. Mr. Barker was born in Randolph county, North Carolina, September 14, 1825 and at four years of age moved with his parents to Hendricks county, Indiana and afterward to Madison county, Iowa in 1852 and to Kansas in 1875. On June 17th, 1852 Mr. Barker was married to Miss Nancy A. Pearcy who yet lives with their sons and daughters to mourn his departure. At 17 years of age the deceased was converted and united with the Missionary Baptist Church and moving his membership from place to place, was in active association with the church for many years. The burial services were held Monday afternoon at the M.E. Church, Rev. W.M. Runyan officiating. Stafford cemetery received the mortal remains of this old and respected citizen where they will await the summons of the Resurrection Morning.
