Obituary

Lillian Esther Wright was born October 23, 1892 at Cambridge, Illinois and moved to Iowa in March 1900 to a farm near Stuart.

She graduated from Stuart High School and Cedar Falls Teachers College and then taught school for a number of years.

She married Fred Herbert Morford on January 8, 1919 and they moved to the Morford homestead where she resided until her death on December 26, 1960.

To this union three children were born: Fred Herbert Jr., Florence (Mrs. Scott Day) of this community, and Lenora (Mrs. Guy Linville) of Orchard Lake, Michigan.

She has been a member of the Penn Center Methodist church since her marriage. She was also affiliated with the Fealty Chapter of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxilliary, the Dexter Woman’s Club and the Woman’s Farm Bureau of Penn Twp.

Surviving Mrs. Morford are her husband, three children, eight grandchildren, two sisters Ada Mount and Grace Shaw, and one brother John Wright. Also many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Known to everyone as “Lil” she was a devoted wife and mother who always had time to help everyone who needed assistance of any kind. She loved to garden and generously shared the fruits of her efforts. Although she had been in poor health for several years, her work in the community will always be remembered.

Rites Held for Mrs. Morford, 68

Dexter—Mrs. Fred (Lillian) Morford passed away Monday afternoon at the Dexter Clinic Hospital after being a patient there since Saturday night. Mrs. Morford, 68, had been ill for a long time and her death was attributed to pneumonia and uremic poisoning. Mrs. Morford was born and reared in the Stuart community coming to the Dexter community as a bride, and spending the remainder of her life on the farm near Dexter.

Mrs. Morford is survived by her husband, Fred, Sr., and three children, Fred, Jr., of near Dexter, Florence, (Mrs. Scott Day) of near Earlham, and Lenore of near Detroit, Michigan. Two sisters, Grace of Lodi, California, and Ada Mount of Stuart and one brother John Wright of Stuart also survive her as do eight grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Morford were held Thursday afternoon, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. at the Penn Center Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Williams officiating.
