JESS NELSON, DeSoto

Services for Jess Nelson, 73, DeSoto, who died Monday, July 22, 1985 at his residence, were held Thursday, July 25 at the Earlham Friends Church with burial at the Earlham Cemetery.

Born at Belmond Aug 9, 1911, he was the son of Ben and Esther Nelson. He lived most of his life in Earlham but also lived for a short time in Washington state and lived in DeSoto for nine years. Mr. Nelson was a heavy equipment repairman for Marquette Cement Co., and retired in 1973.

Survivors include his wife, Doris of DeSoto; daughters, Geri Williamson and Maxine Fuller, both of Earlham, and Carol Cady of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughters, Sybil Witt of Falbrook, Calif., Karen Barnett of Earlham and Janice Duncan of Seattle, Washl; stepsons, Gene Price of Bellevue, Wash., and Jim Price of Earlham, a brother Ray Nelson of Winterset; a sister, Emma Schleiffarth of Earlham; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Erma; his parents, a brother, a sister and two grandsons.

Jess was born August 9, 1911 at Belmond, Iowa, the son of Ben and Esther Nelson. He lived most of his life in Earlham, but also lived for a short time in Washington State.

Jess, 73, died Monday, July 22 at his home in DeSoto of cancer. Services were held Thursday, July 25, 1985 at the Earlham Friends Church. Interment was in Earlham cemetery.

He was a heavy equipment repairman for Marquette Cement Co. and retired in 1973.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Erma, his parents, one brother, one sister and two grandsons.

He is survived by his wife Doris of DeSoto, three daughters, Geri Williamson of Earlham, Maxine Fuller of Earlham, Carol Cady of Cedar Rapids; three step-daughters, Sybil Witt of Fallbrook, California, Karen Barnett of Earlham, Janice Duncan of Seattle, Washington; two step-sons, Gene Price of Bellevue, Washington, Jim Price of Earlham; one brother, Ray Nelson of Winterset; one sister, Emma Schleiffarth of Earlham and 14 grandchildren.
