Shelly Smith, 45, of Winterset died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, in an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Shelly was born in Winterset, Iowa, on July 15, 1962, the daughter of David and Juanita (Sprunger) Ross, and was a lifelong resident of Madison County.

Shelly was a member of the First Christian Church of Winterset and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous. She was most recently employed with Quebecor World in Waukee. Shelly also had worked for Cardinal Glass of Greenfield and Earlham Home Care, Union State Bank and the Winterset Community School District, all of Winterset.

Shelly always enjoyed nature — whether she was mushroom hunting, spending time at the river, fishing or rock hunting. But most of all, she loved being with her family. She also was an avid fan of NASCAR and loved to watch bull riding.

She is survived by her two sons, Andrew Smith (Brandi) and Tyler Smith, both of Winterset; a granddaughter, Hally Marie Smith of Winterset; her mother, Juanita Ross of Winterset; four sisters, Teresa Chapman (Terry) of Adel, Marcia Ross (Steve Jenkins) of Dallas Center, Jean Miller (Marty) of Stuart, and Jane Strong (Jeff) of Winterset; two nephews, Jeffrey Strong and Michael Chapman; and one niece, Mattie Chapman.

She was preceded in death by her father, David Ross; paternal grandparents, Floyd and Pauline Ross; and maternal grandparents, Willis and Mable Sprunger.
