ROBERT WHITWORTH

Wednesday evening at 7 o'clock at his home in Lincoln township, Union county occurred the death of Robert Whitworth.

His death was sudden and unexpected and is a great shock to the family and friends. Death was attributed to heart trouble occasioned by arterial sclerosis. The deceased had been in his usual health having assisted making garden that day. While seated at the supper table he was seen to lay his head on the table and one of the family went to him and raised his head and found that he had passed away. Dr. Johnson of Afton was called but medical aid was needless.

The deceased was born in Cambridge, England, August 12th, 1835, had reached the age of 73 years and 5 months. While a young man, he with his parents came from England to Ohio and after a few years they moved to Illinois, where he was married to Miss Philinda Merritt, of Princeton, Ill., they soon after emigrated to Grand River township, Madison County, where he lived until about six years ago when he and family moved to Lincoln township, Union county, where he resided until his death.

There were born in his home 4 sons and 2 daughters, the oldest son and youngest daughter having passed on before. Those living are Frank, Byron, Rheuben, and Albina. All were at home and around the table together when the father passed away.

The sympathy of the community goes out to the family in their bereavement. Funeral services were held in the M. E. church at 2:30 Friday afternoon conducted by the M. E. Pastor, Rev. Mills and interment in the Macksburg cemetery.
