ROBERT McCALMAN

Robert McCalman as born in Center County, Pennsylvania, Aug. 30, 1834. In 1852 he moved with his parents to Ohio. On April 9, 1857, he was united in marriage with Katherine Cocklin and the same year they came to Iowa and settled in Washington county. In the spring of 1868 they came to Madison County which has been his home ever since. Mrs. McCalman preceded her husband in death March 13, 1911. Since that time Mr. McCalman has made his home with his children and passed to his reward from the home of his son, S. J., trimphant in the faith of his Saviour, Jan 7, 1916, at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 7 days.

To Mr. and Mrs. McCalman were born seven children, all living except Erskine, who died in infancy. He leaves to mourn their loss two brothers, two sisters and six children, thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The brothers are J. C. McCalman of Blairtown, Mo., and Joseph of Creighton, Mo. The sisters are Mrs. Mary Erwin of Urich, Mo., and Mrs. C. B. Kepner of Belton, Mo. The children are Edgar E. of Norton, Kansas, Mrs. S. W. Niblock of Fresno, California, S. J. of Winterset, Ia, Dr. I. J. of Kansas City, Mo., Dr. C. S. of Mapleton, Iowa, Mrs. H. F. Moore of Sioux Falls, S.D.

Early in life Mr. McCalman united with the Presbyterian church and in January, 1859, together with his wife, united with the First Baptist church at Washington, Ia., and upon coming to Madison county united with the First Baptist church of Winterset, of which he was a faithful member until called to the church triumphant. He was an ernest Christian, a kind father and a good neighbor.

Funeral services were conducted from the home of his son, S. J., west of Winterset, Sunday, Jan. 9, at 9:45 by the Rev. Robert A. Grigsby. Interment was made in the cemetery at Dexter, Iowa, by the side of his wife.
