Mrs. Smith Dead.

Mrs. James Smith died at her home in Lincoln township, December 13th, aged 61 years and 23 days.

The funeral occurred at the M. E. church in this city last Monday, and many sorrowing relatives and friends followed her remains to the grave.

Martha Johnston was born in Ireland, Nov. 19th, 1835. When she was five years old her parents moved to America and located in Cochocton county, Ohio. She united with the M. E. Church when a small girl, and at time of death was a faithful member of this church at Winterset. December 28th, 1865, she was married to Mr. James Smith, in Ohio. To them were born five children, three of whom are living to mourn the loss of a mother. The family moved to Madison county in August, 1869.

Mrs. Smith was a noble, Christian lady, and as she put off the armor of a useful life here she put on the crown of eternal reward.

Death of Mrs. James Smith.

Mrs. James Smith, of Lincoln township, whose serious illness was recently mentioned in these columns, died at her home last Sunday, December 13, 1896, aged 61 years and 23 days. During her last illness, which began November 25th, she was a great sufferer.

Martha Johnston was born in Ireland, November 19, 1835. When she was about five years old her parents came to America, and settled in Coshocton county, Ohio, where she was married to James Smith on December 28th, 1865. She was the mother of five children, of whom three—two daughters and one son—are living. The family came to Madison county in August, 1869.

Mrs. Smith died in the communion of the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she had been a member since she was a small girl. The funeral service was held last Monday at the Methodist church in this place, and the remains were interred at the Winterset cemetery.
