COUNTY AND CITY

A sudden death was that of Arthur Duff, who lived near North river, northeast of Winterset. On Tuesday last sometime in the afternoon he was at Britain's blacksmith shop, and while there was overcome by heart failure or some other disorder that caused him to fall helpless. Death was not instantaneous, life lingering for a few hours. He was immediately cared for, and medical aid summoned, but to no avail. Later in the evening he passed away. It will be remembered that his brother, David Duff, died in a similar way a few years ago.

Mr. Duff was well advanced in years, though his exact age is unknown to us. He has been a resident of the county many years, and always regarded as one of its most upright and substantial citizens.

Coordinator's note: Per analysis of census data, the deceased went by his middle name starting some time after he was 45 years old.
