Dale L. Lauer, 94, of Winterset died May 14, 2008, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 17, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Pastors Kevin Blader and Susan Blader officiating. Burial and a Masonic graveside service were held at Hill of Zion Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Funeral arrangements were handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
Dale Lauer was born Dec. 10, 1913, in Madison County to Leroy and Lula Mae (Linthicum) Lauer and was a 1933 graduate of Macksburg High School. His marriage to Eleanor Bowen took place May 12, 1937. He lived in Madison, Adair and Guthrie counties before moving to Winterset in 2002. Dale had been a farmer his entire life, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Hill of Zion Church. He also was a 4-H leader for 12 years and was active in Farm Bureau. While working with Farm Bureau, Dale taught farming techniques to young farmers from foreign countries — including six from Japan, three from Brazil and one from Norway. Following the death of Eleanor in 1978, he later married Joy L. Collins on Jan. 6, 1979, in Winterset.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor; a brother, Donald Lauer; and a grandson, Mark Lauer.
He is survived by his wife, Joy, of Winterset; three sons, Duane Lauer of Macksburg, Jack Lauer of Millersport, Ohio, and Jay Lauer of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Jill Carlton of Vero Beach, Fla.; and nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
