Wm. Sturman, one of the early settlers in the northern part of the county, died yesterday morning at his last place of residence, Highland Park, Des Moines. The remains were brought to the residence of his niece, Mrs. C. Danforth, and to-day taken to the cemetery on North Branch for burial. Deceased was at the time of his death about eighty-five years of age, and the last of the four Sturman brothers who settled in what is now, and for many years has been known as Union township.

Obituary.

William Sturman was born in Hampshire county, Va., April 20th, 1811, and when about six years old moved with his parents to Tuscarawas county, Ohio. In 1830 he was married to Jane Elson. They lived in Ohio until 1846 when they removed to Madison county, Iowa, where he lived until the last two years, which time he lived in Highland Park, Des Moines, Iowa. His wife died in 1889 at the age of 79 years. Deceased was one of the foremost farmers in Madison county at one time and was well known by all the old settlers here as a highly respected gentleman of character and worth. The remains were brought to this city April 23d and taken to the residence of Chal. Danforth, from which place they were taken to the U. B. cemetery in Jefferson township and laid to rest, Rev. Harris conducting the services.
