Page 1, Column 4Francis A. Likens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Likens, was born near the town of Paterson, Iowa, Aug. 31, 1874, and died at his home in Winterset, Ia., Oct. 29, 1907, aged 33 years, 1 month and 28 days. He has always lived in this county, being engaged in general work, where he has won many friends. In July 1900, he was married to Miss Belle E. Rogers, and to this union three children were born, one girl and two boys.
Indeed this home is deeply shadowed with the cloud of affliction. About one month ago Mr. Likens was taken down with typhoid fever, which finally, after much suffering cased his death. Two weeks ago his wife was brought down with malaria and was unable to leave her bed for the funeral services - and to make matters more bitter - the little boy four years old was laying in the same bed with the mother with the same disease. In this sad hour, we hear Christ saying, "I was sick and ye visited me not," and hear the man of Prayer Jos. 1:27, giving his definition of religion. May the God of comfort add his blessing.
After a short service at the house the Body was laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery.
S.D. Harlan
