Death of A. B. Shaw

A. B. Shaw, one of the pioneer farmers of the county, died at the home of his son, M. C. Shaw, in Webster township, Monday from erysipelas. The deceased had been in poor health for some time and was visiting his son when he became worse and passed away surrounded by his children and friends. He was upwards of 80 years of age and was one of the most reliable, upright and honorable men of the county.

A. B. Shaw of Winterset died on Monday of this week, at the home of his son, M. C. Shaw of Webster township, where he had gone to visit about two weeks ago. While well advanced in years, he had been enjoying fair health until about one week ago, when he was taken ill with erysipelas. Mr. Shaw was one of the early settlers of Webster township and was a man held in high esteem by his acquaintances. More details of his life will be given in an obituary notice in these columns next week.

A. B. Shaw was born in Brown county, Ohio, Feb. 26, 1829 and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. C. Shaw in Webster township, Madison county, Iowa on Sept. 16, 1912, aged 83 years, 6 months and 18 days.

He was married March 6, 1853 to Mary Snider of Brown county, Ohio. To them were born ten children, three sons and seven daughters; one son and two daughters dying in infancy. The living children are: Mrs. Wm. Brock, Mrs. Barbara Krell, Mrs. M. C. Shaw, Mrs. H. M. Brown, Mrs. -. A. Krell, M. A. Shaw, and G. L. Shaw, all of whom were present during her sickness and death except Mrs. H. M. Brown and M. A. Shaw. Mr. Shaw moved to Madison county, Iowa, 38 years ago and lived on the farm until 16 years ago, at which time he moved to Winterset. His wife died about six years ago. Since then he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Barbara Krell. He was a member of the M. E. church of Winterset and lived a faithful Christian life. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Walburn, his pastor, at the Pleasant View church and he was laid to rest beside his wife in the Walker cemetery.
