Lillian Pettit, 92, of Creston died April 19, 2008 at her home.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at Pearson-Coen-Beaty Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery. Mary O'Riley will officiate. Burial will be in Winterset Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Rainbow Park or Greater Regional Hospice. Online condolences may be left under the obituary category at pearsonfuneralhomes.com

Lillian Pettit, daughter of Viola Rebecca (Clement) and James Albert Harrison, was born Jan. 11, 1916 in Madison County near Macksburg.

On Nov. 14, 1934, she married Lonnie Leonard Pettit in Winterset. They were foster parents for several children for more than 10 years. They moved to Union County in 1946.

Lillian was a farm wife, homemaker and nurse aide, beginning at Creston Hospital in 1957. She admitted the first patient to Greater Community Hospital when it was built. Lillian retired in 1984.

Survivors include her daughters, Lois (husband Fritz) Weis of Afton, Linda (husband Jack) Hanrahan of Prole and LaDonna (husband Mike) Short of Creston; sons, Leonard (wife Regina) Pettit of Afton and Lowell (wife C. Janet) Pettit of Creston; 22 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1994; brother Henry Harrison; sisters, Tuttise Hulbert, Isadora Mabbit, Mattie Binns, Daisy Mapes and Rosey Davis; grandson, Steven Pettit and grandson-in-law, Bruce Weaver.
