MRS. ALVAH PHILLIPS

Sarah Madana Cunningham was born July 4, 1864 and died Dec. 18, 1915 at the age of 51 years, five months and 14 days.

On Oct. 17, 1880 she was married to David Howard. To this union were born five children: Mrs. Verda Craven of Waukee, Iowa; Mrs. Gertie Fox of Harrison, Nebr.; Leonard Howard of Greenfield, Iowa; Mrs. Oral Beaman of Earlham, Iowa, and Georgia Howard, who was at home and with her during her last sickness. Mr. Howard passed away in January, 1895.

She was again joined in marriage to Mr. Alvah Phillips, March 4, 1903. She was converted and became a member of the Church of Christ at the Drake school house, from which she never removed her membership.

She leaves to mourn her loss a husband, one brother of Middle River, four half brothers, and a stepmother, residing in Des Moines; five children and 13 grandchildren.

Mrs. Phillips was a good mother, a faithful companion and a kind and helpful neighbor. She was always ready and willing to give aid to the needy during sickness and distress and for this and her other christian virtues. The community indeed feels an irreparable loss.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church at Middle River, Monday, Dec. 20th at 1:30 p.m.by Rev. Robt Grigsby.

Note: Burial was made at Wight cemetery

SARAH PHILLIPS

This community was again shocked early Saturday morning, when the angel of death entered the home of A. J. Phillips and took his wife, who had been sick but a few days. Her death was unexpected by her family, but her health had been failing since the death of her brother in September. She kept at her work until a few days before her death. She will be sadly missed by her husband and five children, and also this community. She was president of the Sunshine society and a friend to everybody in sickness and sorrow.

Her funeral was held at the church Monday and laid to rest in the Wight cemetery. Her husband and children have the sympathy of everyone in this community.
