VIOLA McCOY, Winterset

Anna Viola McCoy, 94, of Winterset died March 22, 2008, at Southridge Nursing & Rehab Center in Marshalltown while under the care of their staff and Iowa Hospice.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, at the chapel of the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Marshalltown. Burial was at Pleasant View Cemetery in Thornton. Viola McCoy was born March 24, 1913, in Thornton to Nels J. and Caroline J. (Nielsen) Paulsen. She grew up in the area of her birth until the age of 12, when her family moved to Northwood, where she graduated from Northwood High School. Her marriage to Don Edward McCoy took place May 17, 1939, in Bethany, Mo. They resided in Ft. Dodge, Montour and Des Moines before moving to Winterset in September of 1955. While in Winterset, Viola was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Winterset Women’s Club, TOPS 3721, and Friends of the Winterset Public Library. She also was a lifetime member of the Madison County Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Kay Weaver; a great-granddaughter, Jill Fiscus; and three brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her children — Anne Fiscus, Jean Bristow, Mary McCoy and Peggy Haskin-Wanczyk; and 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
