Death of VERA WOODS

Vera May, the fourteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Austin Woods, died on Dec. 31st, 1921, at the home of her parents in the Zion community. She was ill only four days, intense suffering in one ear being the first warning of her dangerous condition. Mastoiditis is believed to have caused her death, which was preceded by a long period of unconsciousness.

Vera's death has brought deep sorrow into the home and into the community. Funeral services were held at one o'clock on Monday afternoon at Zion church, conducted by Rev. R. Lee Kirkland. Burial took place in Jefferson cemetery, north of Winterset.

Vera May Woods

Vera May Woods, eldest daughter of Austin and Eva Woods, was born in Union township, Madison county, Iowa July 22, 1907 and died at the home of her parents, Saturday, December 31, 1921 at 5 o’clock p. m.

Vera was never a strong girl and her last illness was brief but serious from the first, being sick only four days. All that loving care could do could not keep her with us. She was always patient and thoughtful of others even during her suffering.

Vera moved with her parents to Zion Community March 1, 1919, and immediately entered the school and church activities.

Vern was a girl of beautiful and sweet disposition, loved by her teacher and school mates. In the home she was always cheerful and helpful. Her mother’s and father’s comfort and a dear sister to her younger brothers and sisters.

Vera was a faithful little Christian and read her Bible daily, having given soul into her Savior’s keeping with whom she is now at rest.

She leaves to mourn her loss, her father and mother, three brothers, Ward, Albert and Nelson, and two sisters, Harriett and Mary and two much loved aunts, Miss Harriett Woods and Mrs. Edith Ryner also two aged grandfathers.

Vera has passed away from us and has left a place in our hearts that can never be filled in the hearts of her schoolmates and loved ones.
