MINA SPEER, WINTERSET

Mina Illene Speer, 90, of Winterset died Feb. 23, 2008, at Winterset Care Center North.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Winterset Care Center North Activity Fund or Patterson United Methodist Church. Arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.

Mina Speer was born April 5, 1917, near Patterson to Everett and Flora (Potter) Quick and was a 1934 graduate of Patterson High School. Following graduation, Mina taught at the Ebenezer rural school for two years. On May 23, 1937, she married Ernest B. Speer. After their marriage, Mina and Ernest started their farming career together. She was a member of the Patterson United Methodist Church where she served as chairman of the United Methodist Women. She also was active in the community — serving as a 4-H leader in Crawford Township as well as serving as chairman of the county 4-H committee and vice chairman of Madison County Farm Bureau Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Helen Quick; and a grandson, David Scott Tibben.

She is survived by one son, Wayne Speer of Patterson; two daughters, Joyce Koehler of Indianola and Marilyn Tibben of Truro; and four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

MINA SPEER, WINTERSET

Mina Illene Speer, 90, of Winterset died Feb. 23, 2008, at Winterset Care Center North.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 26, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Montpelier Cemetery in Patterson. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Winterset Care Center North Activity Fund or the Patterson United Methodist Church.

Mina Speer was born April 5, 1917, to Everett and Flora (Potter) Quick of rural Patterson and was a 1934 graduate of Patterson High School. After graduation, she taught at the Ebenezer rural school for two years. She married Ernest B. Speer on May 23, 1937. Mina was a farm wife and homemaker. She was a member of the Patterson United Methodist Church where she served as chairman of the UMW. She also was active in the community — serving as a 4-H leader in Crawford Township as well as serving as chairman of the county 4-H committee and vice chairman of Madison County Farm Bureau Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Helen Quick; and a grandson, David Scott Tibben.
