Death of W. H. RYAN

Wm. H. Ryan, one of the prominent citizens and long time resident of Crawford township, died early Thursday morning. He had just reached Mercy hospital on his way home from the Mayo clinic at Rochester, Minn., when he took a sinking spell and died suddenly.

About three months ago, he was attacked with a serious infection which baffled medical assistance. After a consultation with the best specialists in Des Moines, he was taken to Rochester in the hope that something might be done to save his life. It was his earnest desire to return home and see his children, and as he had been feeling somewhat better for the past week or two, the journey was undertaken.

He was born on the old home farm in Crawford township 47 years ago, his parents being among the first settlers of that township. His wife, formerly Miss Bridget Maher, with four sons and five daughters, survive him. Two of the daughters graduated but a few weeks ago from St. Joseph's academy in Des Moines.

The funeral of W. H. Ryan was held last Saturday from St. Patrick’s church. The services were conducted by Rev. M. V. Dugan and the body laid in St. Patrick’s cemetery.

Mr. Ryan was attacked about two months ago with what seemed to be polypus and entered Mercy hospital for treatment. For a short time he became better, but afterwards grew so much worse that he was taken to Rochester, Minn., where it was discovered that sinusitis had so far developed that nothing could be done, and he arrived at Mercy hospital in Des Moines, last Thursday morning, a few hours before his death.

The body was brought to his late home Thursday evening. Mr. Ryan was a man in the prime of life, being 47 years of age. Besides a wife he leaves a family of nine children.
