Elijah E. Fox, who was stricken with paralysis on December 27th, died at his home in Winterset, on Monday, January 4th. As was noted in last week's issue, Mr. Fox's health had not been good of late but he had persisted in working even when his relatives had felt it unwise. On the day before Christmas, Mr. Fox was at work in Creger's poultry house, but was taken sick and forced to go home. Paralysis of the right side developed on the following Monday and his speech was affected. Slight improvement was shown but his affliction was so severe that death came a week later. he retained consciousness until shortly before the end.
Mr. Fox came to Madison county from Monroe county nearly a half century ago. he farmed for a while on the Cox and Boyles farms, east of Winterset. In 1895, he moved to Adair county, living in and near Greenfield. Two years ago he moved to Winterset, where he has since resided. Five sons and two daughters survive their father and remain to comfort their mother. All were present at the funeral services, which were held this morning in the Methodist church at half past ten o'clock, conducted by Rev. Jackson Giddens. Burial was made at Greenfield.
