Death Claims Husband of Two Weeks

W. Alson Coe, son of L. B. Coe north of Winterset, died Tuesday of this week. Mr. Coe has been sick for some time and no hopes of his recovery were entertained since the first of his illness.

Prior to the attack of disease the date of his wedding had been set. When the time came he was hopelessly ill, yet his intended bride, Jennie M. Brooker, insisted upon the consummation of the pledge that they were married about two weeks ago. Mr. Coe was 27 years of age.

William Alson Coe was born May 14, 1871 in Washington county, Iowa and married Miss Jennie Brooker, January 9th 1899. He died at his home January 23rd, 1899, aged 27 years, 8 months and 14 days.

He was received into full fellowship with the church at Fairview August 5th, 1894 by Rev. E. M. Dugger, pastor and remained a faithful and consistent member till God said, "It is enough, come up higher."

For the past two years he has suffered more than words can express but he bore all with much patience and was always cheerful, thereby giving us lessons of Christian fortitude and forbearance, leaving us a bright testimony that he was ready whenever the Master should call him, in the morning, at noon, or night. A few days before his death he lovingly and earnestly talked and prayed with each member of the family and admonished them all to meet him in heaven. He said, "Tell all of my young associates to follow Christ, follow Christ. Seek first the kingdom of God." Death had no terror to him. It was the gateway to heaven, he said.

The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. J. L. Johnson at Fairview, January 25th from Eccl: 11:1.
