Samuel Carson Pickens, 81, a retired railroad employee who spent his life in and around Madison County, died Friday November 5, 1976 at Madison Manor North in Winterset. He was born March 6, 1895 in St. Charles, Iowa, the son of Robert and Catherine Blair Pickens.
Educated in Davis City and St. Charles schools, Mr. Pickens was married to Zelpha Corsbie on December 15, 1920, in Osceola, Iowa. The couple had three children.
Mr. Pickens was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Winterset V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife, Zelpha of Peru, a daughter, Mrs. Frances Cleveland of Texarkana, Arkansas, a son, Berdean Pickens of Peru, Iowa, five grandchilden, two great grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Robert (Loraine) Pickens of Truro.
Mr. Pickens was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Robert, and two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 8, 1976 at 1:30 p.m. from Kale Funeral Home in Truro, Rev. David Wagner officiating.
Burial was made at Peru Cemetery with military honors by V.F.W. Post 8142 of Winterset.
